Biology

Course Description:

BIOLOGY is the study of living things (organisms).  The word biology can be broken down into the two greek root words, bios, meaning “life”, and logos, which means “study”.  An organism can be defined as any living thing, ranging from a one celled bacteria to large mammals like the elephant.  Biology consists of several “Big Ideas” to which all living things are connected.  The ideas that the second part of this course will focus on are DNA, Parade of Life and Ecology.  Through these concepts, students will perform experiments and participate in hands-on activities to develop thinking skills and science skills determined by the College Readiness Standards (ACT) and Common Core Standards (ISBE).
